The Kenton Van Pelt Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to students who reflect Kenton’s spirit of compassion and determination. Kenton attended HDCH from September 2010 through June 2012. He was a student who loved engaging with people, and who had energy, enthusiasm, determination, and a heart for service. Kenton was a loyal friend, a creative performer, and a passionate advocate for justice. He was moved and motivated by the devastation and loss as well as by the beauty and joy he observed while serving in Haiti during March Break, 2012.
Recipients of the award reflect a desire to pursue and extend Kenton’s people-oriented vision of hope and transformation. The award is intended to help defray the cost of mission and service opportunities and to help students grow as global citizens. Each year, we forward a group of exceptionally strong applications to the for review; it is quite an honour to be selected from among this group of candidates.
We are pleased to announce that this year’s award recipients are: Joelle Schaafsma, Esther DeJong, Noelle Jaster, and Alysha Wagensveld.
Congratulations to these fine students. We wish them well as they continue to live, discover, and serve in God’s world.
